The AP reports Yahoo Paid CEO $80M in 2006.
That's obscene, given Yahoo's floundering during Semel's time at the helm.
Sure, the options are underwater at $30 to $40. The $80m is an estimate of future value, not cash. But still. Bonuses? Boggling. (Random thought: does Yahoo treat this estimated $80m as comp expense? If so, who pays the taxes on Semel's paper earnings?)
In contrast, I'm reminded of this inspiring post late last year by Whole Food’s President & Founder John Mackey discussing excessive CEO compensation. Well worth reading.
