Searching For Hotels

About a year ago, I had given up using search engines to find hotel information. The SERPS were so cluttered with resellers and affiliates that it was near impossible to find the actual hotel site — you need tricks like adding their area code to the search query.

Planning for my trip to Boston for NEMOA this week, I did I a Google search for royal sonesta cambridge and got a page of great results, with actual hotel right on top, followed by relevant reviews.

And the same search on Yahoo — royal sonesta cambridge — again, great relevant fast results.

It is neat to revisit a topic area after some time away and note quantum improvements in search relevance.

PS If you’re interested in catalog and mulitchannel marketing and you’re in Boston this Weds, Thursday, and Friday (March 21-23, 2007), check out the Nemoa Spring Conference. I’ll speaking on “Unmasking the Secrets of Multi-channel ROI” with Coy Clement of ClementDIRECT, Morlee Griswold of Patagonia, John Seebeck of Crate & Barrel, and Nancy Fischman from L.L. Bean Wednewday at 1:30. (And the location? Royal Sonesta, Cambridge, of course!)
