400+ Tools for Photographers, Videobloggers, Podcasters & Musicians

Lots of free (and nearly-free) web resources to help your content shine, dance, and sing. Worth checking out.

Mashable’s post is a great example of linkbait: excellent content, strong headline, and social-media friendly. Technorati currently reports 231 inbound links to their post from the blogosphere, and this post makes it 232.

“Inbound links — who cares?”

Google cares. And so Mashable cares.

As Google uses inbound links as one important factor in determining the relevance and authority of a website, these hundreds of inbound links will help Mashable score higher in all of their organic Google results.

Are you writing content for your web site that is so good that outsiders are compelled to link to it?

Are you even tracking your inbound links?

Linkbaiting is an ugly sounding word, but it is a totally legitimate and powerful marketing technique to increase organic traffic from all the engines.

      Alan,

That is truly great link bait and must have taken a long time to create.

I am an audio guy from a previous career and I found one item in there I didn’t know about.

Also, I just listened to your podcast interview with Stephen Spencer and I must say I was very impressed with your knowledge and what appears to be your love of nice clean raw data.

It was fun to listen to as I was watching my 2 year old finally fall asleep! I didn’t fall asleep, it was very good.

    2. Thanks for the kind words, Dave. There are two interviews I’ve had with Stephan floating around online: a long audio interview from ’07, and a short text one from ’06. Good luck with the sleep, my family had good success with the Ferber book. :)
